Craps Pass vs Don’t Pass Math
The probabilities, house edges and tie treatment behind the two core craps line bets.
The Pass Line house edge is about 1.41%. Don’t Pass is slightly lower at about 1.36% when the come-out 12 pushes, but the two bets have different win/lose/push structures.
Pass Line structure
Come-out 7 or 11 wins; 2, 3 or 12 loses. Any other number becomes the point. After a point is established, the point must repeat before 7 for the Pass bet to win.
Don’t Pass structure
The wager generally reverses the Pass logic, except the come-out 12 usually pushes rather than wins. That push is why the Don’t Pass edge is not simply the mirror image.
House edge
The widely used benchmark is approximately 1.414% for Pass and 1.364% for Don’t Pass under standard rules.
Odds are separate
Once a point is established, an odds wager can be added at true odds. That extra bet has zero house edge but increases total money at risk.
