Baccarat Side Bets & Payout Verification

How to evaluate baccarat Tie, Pair and other side bets without assuming the main-game edge applies.

Quick answer

Baccarat side bets are separate wagers with separate probabilities and paytables. Standard eight-deck Tie at 8:1 has a much higher house edge than Banker or Player; changing the payout to 9:1 changes that edge substantially.

Tie at 8:1

Using the standard eight-deck tie probability of about 9.5156%, an 8:1 Tie bet has a house edge of about 14.36%.

Tie at 9:1

At the same probability, a 9:1 payout reduces the house edge to about 4.84%. The label “Tie” is therefore not enough; payout is essential.

Pair bets

Pair probabilities depend on deck count. Side-bet names can also vary by provider, so verify the exact event definition.

Method

Expected value = sum of probability × net payout over every mutually exclusive result. If a paytable omits an outcome definition, do not guess.
