Roulette Systems: What They Change—and What They Don’t
Why Martingale-style staking systems alter bet size and risk shape without removing the wheel’s mathematical edge.
A betting progression can change the distribution of wins, losses and bankroll swings. It does not change the probability of the next independent spin or the payout schedule that creates roulette house edge.
Martingale
Doubling after losses creates many small winning sequences and occasional very large loss sequences. Table limits and finite bankroll stop indefinite doubling.
Gambler’s fallacy
A long run of red does not make black more likely on a properly functioning independent wheel. The zero pocket also means red and black are not a 50/50 pair.
Pattern systems
Tracking hot numbers, cold numbers or wheel sectors does not create predictive information when outcomes are independent and the wheel/RNG is operating correctly.
What actually changes edge
Wheel type, payout schedule, and special rules such as La Partage can change expected return. Bet sequencing by itself does not.
